The REFRAMING Cinema Film Festival (RCFF) was born out of necessity—an urgent response to the ongoing lack of opportunities, funding, and platforms for filmmakers of color. Too often, our stories are told through an outsider’s lens, misrepresented, or left untold. RCFF was created to reclaim that narrative and provide a dedicated space where minority voices are not just included but celebrated and prioritized.
As a first-year festival, RCFF is more than just a new event—it is the start of a movement to reshape how films by Black, Creole, Indigenous, and other underrepresented creatives are seen, valued, and distributed. By providing a stage for authentic storytelling across genres, RCFF aims to challenge the status quo, elevate new perspectives, and cultivate a thriving ecosystem of minority filmmakers and artists. This is just the beginning, and we expect RCFF to continue growing year after year, expanding its reach and impact within the film industry.
Our name isn’t just a title, it’s a mission statement:
Taking place May 23-25, 2025, at the LITE Center in Lafayette, Louisiana, the inaugural RCFF will set the foundation for what will become a lasting tradition of celebrating diverse cinema. Attendees can expect:
The REFRAMING Cinema Film Festival is produced by Vues de Culture, a nonprofit media organization dedicated to developing and producing cultural narratives across all artistic disciplines, including film, visual arts, music, and literature. RCFF is not just an event, it is the beginning of a new legacy in cinema. We know that this first year is just the start, and we anticipate RCFF growing into a premiere destination for filmmakers, artists, and audiences passionate about diverse storytelling. Join us for this groundbreaking first edition as we celebrate the voices that have too long been overlooked and work toward building a more inclusive and representative film industry.
The REFREMING Cinema Film Festival exists to create a space where stories are told by us, from us—stories that have long lived as oral traditions and can now be translated into compelling visual narratives. Our mission is to provide opportunities for African Americans and other people of color to participate in every element of filmmaking, including writing, directing, producing, and cinematography. This festival also partners with Black artists from various mediums to showcase their work to arts professionals, collectors, and the broader creative community, ensuring their contributions reach audiences within and beyond the arts world.
We envision a world where stories about us are told by us—where narratives from historically marginalized communities are not just seen but understood and valued. The Reframing Cinema Film Festival seeks to demonstrate the vast talent of Black, Creole, and Indigenous filmmakers, extending into film genres where these voices have often been overlooked. Our goal is to showcase the depth and breadth of our creative contributions while preserving cultural heritage through visual storytelling and encouraging industry professionals to recognize these talents across all genres.
We prioritize stories that stay true to the lived experiences of underrepresented communities, particularly Black, Creole, Indigenous, and other communities of color.
Our films and events serve as a means of documenting and preserving cultural practices, languages, and stories for future generations.
We encourage filmmakers to break new ground in narrative techniques, visual. storytelling, and audience engagement.
Our selection process and event programming reflect our commitment to providing opportunities for filmmakers of color, ensuring diverse voices are heard both on and off the screen.
