The REFRAMING Cinema Film Festival opens with Grounded: Creating Space for Black Peace, a powerful short documentary by award-winning filmmaker Brittney Brackett. The film explores how Black and Brown communities face mental health challenges, trauma, and bullying, and their ongoing fight for healing spaces.
Screening during Mental Health Awareness Month, Grounded sets the tone for a weekend of care and cultural storytelling. A community panel featuring mental health experts—and Brackett herself—will follow the film.

Brittney Brackett is the director of Grounded: Creating Space for Black Peace, a multi-award-winning documentary exploring how performing and healing arts can support the mental health of youth and teens in Black and Brown communities. With over 20 years of experience as a TV host, corporate spokesperson, journalist, and media producer, Brittney is the founder and owner of b dynamic! Productions, as well as the Operations Manager for the company’s production arm.
A self-published author and nonprofit leader, she founded The Outstanding Youth Awards in 2015, a 501(c)(3) organization uplifting youth achievement. Her work spans television, film, voice acting, and journalism—with writing and reporting credits in SHEEN Magazine, Upstate Business Journal, The Community Informer, and more. She is also the on-air moderator of Safe Space with SCETV, an award-winning teen-led discussion series on social media and mental wellness.
Brittney’s films have earned widespread recognition, including Best Actress at the 2024 Cinematography and Photography Film Festival in Slovakia, the 2024 AfroSouth Film Festival Audience Award, and Best Documentary honors from both The Monthly Film Festival and Athens International Monthly Film Festival in Greece. Currently in pre-production on her first feature, 7000 Feathers, she continues to blend storytelling with advocacy to create space for healing, literacy, and legacy in underserved communities.
Raquel McCorvey, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC is the founder and CEO of BeLuxxe Health & Wellness, a medspa and wellness center in Lafayette, Louisiana, committed to elevating self-worth and promoting holistic care. A dual-certified Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Raquel blends clinical expertise with deep compassion to create spaces where healing and self-empowerment intersect—especially for women of color.
Raised in Cecilia, Louisiana, Raquel’s commitment to wellness is rooted in community. Her work extends far beyond her practice: she is a published author, professional legal nurse consultant, certified health coach, and a dedicated death doula. She also serves on the boards of the Lafayette Council on Aging and the United Southern Express Track Club, using her voice to advocate for mental health awareness, self-care, and accessible healthcare.
At the heart of Raquel’s mission is a deep belief in the power of self-defined healing. Whether through coaching, clinical care, or conversation, she works to ensure people feel seen, heard, and supported—especially in moments that challenge identity, peace, and purpose.
Bridgette Mouton, RN, MNRI-CIT is a registered nurse with over 20 years of clinical experience and a certified Core Specialist in Neurosensorimotor Reflex Integration (MNRI)—a method known for bridging physical, emotional, and neurological healing across all ages. She is one of the first in the U.S. positioned to earn a graduate degree in this emerging field and currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Masgutova Graduate School.
Her work centers on optimizing wellness for clients navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, impulse control, identity crisis, and emotional dysregulation. As a community doula, Bridgette also supports families through birth, postpartum, and neonatal transitions using MNRI protocols designed to support both body and mind.

Reginald Lemelle, MS, LPC-S, TF-CBT is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor whose work is rooted in one guiding belief: “Everything I’ve gone through in this life can’t be for nothing. I have to use it to help others.” It’s this lived wisdom that shapes his therapeutic practice and his unwavering dedication to each client he serves.
A graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Reginald brings extensive experience in individual, family, and group therapy—with a focus on teen crisis intervention, grief and bereavement, men’s issues, racial trauma, and young adult development. He is certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and blends that with person-centered and solution-focused approaches to meet clients where they are, while helping them build the skills to move forward.
His sessions are collaborative, practical, and deeply personal. Reginald doesn’t just help clients manage their circumstances—he helps them name their pain, define their goals, and rebuild their lives with intention and resilience.
Korwin M. Jean, M.Ed is a 26-year veteran educator, school administrator, author, and educational consultant whose work centers on reshaping how educators engage students—especially those navigating behavioral and emotional challenges. With a Master’s in Education and certification in Educational Leadership, Korwin has served as both Principal and Assistant Principal, using relational approaches to improve student behavior and outcomes.
As the founder of Educational Enrichment Services LLC, he delivers professional development for educators grounded in emotional intelligence and bias reduction. His perspective-driven trainings challenge educators to see beyond discipline and data—and to connect with the student behind the behavior.
Korwin is the author of Essays in Education: Perspectives of a Black Male Educator and Agent of Change: A Guide to Making Positive Impacts. He hosts the podcast Meetings with Mugs and was recently nominated for multiple categories in Southern Tea Magazine’s 2024 Influential Educator Awards. In 2024, he was also named the Creole Culture Inc. Education Honoree, a recognition of his ongoing commitment to transforming education for minority youth.
Beyond titles, Korwin shows up in the places that matter—mentoring students, volunteering at events, and advocating for real change within systems built to overlook the very communities he serves.
